About

Welcome, friend!

My name is Anne Reid, and I began Principal Photography in 2024. Growing up, l always felt most alive when performing with small choral ensembles or community theater groups. I studied theater in college and my first job was teaching at a performing arts studio. A few years later, I noticed an uncomfortable truth: my peers were reaching  life and financial milestones I was not. Feeling like I was behind or failing,  I decided after much heartache to pursue a more stable career and ended up working in the bridal industry. I blinked and a decade had passed. One day, I was just somehow ready to re-examine what speaks to my soul and eventually began studying photography at night school. The same profound satisfaction I had experienced with performing arts came rushing back - this time with the understanding of how to run a sustainable business. Welcome to Principal Photography.

At Principal Photography, I specialize in capturing the essence of stories - those fleeting moments of palpable connection that draw many of us to the performing arts in the first place. My work is driven by the belief that each creative and each project deserves to be celebrated with images that allow the magic to be rediscovered. After all, what tremendous gifts storytellers offer! Providing images that help creatives further their career is a privilege I do not take lightly, as it contributes to that all-important end goal: "to experience becoming" as detailed by Kurt Vonnegut in his famous letter to high school students. (Should you, friend, need a dose of the incomparable Sir Ian McKellen today, you can find his delivery of the entire letter here.) Not only do I finally find artistic fulfillment through my photography,  the photographs also contribute to the growth of other artists and fellow storytellers. Artists' efforts are commemorated with the utmost care through my lens so no part of their offering is ever truly lost.

I also take care to invest only in equipment that functions exceptionally well in live performance settings. My cameras and lenses are built to work beautifully in low light without a flash, and my cameras don’t need to make a shutter sound, so I’ll always be as discreet as possible.

So go forth fearlessly and create! Bring your most vulnerable self to your project! "Make a face in your mashed potatoes!" And let me know when you do, because I'll be right there to cheer you on and to preserve your story and the beautiful way in which only you can tell it.

Love,

Anne
